Resch-Goeppinger Family History:
An American Story, 1849 to the Present
by John Phillips Resch
Although this book is written for current and future generations of the Resches and Goeppingers, the account of these families will be familiar to the general reader interested in their own history. Stories of failure and success may remind readers of their own family’s history, starting as immigrants and becoming Americans. More than a genealogy, the book is enriched by over 300 photographs and more than 150 letters from family members who fought in the Spanish-American War and in the Marine Corps, 1941-45, and who wrote about their disappointments, grief, joy, and everyday life. As a country of immigrants there is much to share and to celebrate.
About the Author
John Phillips “Jack” Resch is Emeritus Professor of History at the University of New Hampshire.
In 2013, the University of New Hampshire honored Jack with its Distinguished Professor Award.
Since retirement, he gathered genealogy, letters, official documents, and lore to produce this history of the Resch-Goeppinger family. Those earlier generations left a deep and lasting imprint on their descendants and communities—our roots. This book expresses our gratitude to them and preserves their legacy to inspire future generations.
He thanks relatives who helped create this book by sharing stories, documents, and photographs, and hopes they will continue this chronicle with narratives of their families.
