Tracking Data on Photographs: A Stitch in Time Saves Nine
For picture-rich books, especially histories or memoirs, the task of tracking photographs and other images is easiest when done in conjunction with the planning and writing process. Setting up an image tracking spreadsheet or Word document at the beginning of a project, and updating it as information about each image is acquired, will help you avoid confusion, catch redundancies, and be aware of remaining tasks.
For the design process to proceed smoothly, it's important to be sure the images you are collecting are print quality, that you have written permission to use them in your book, and that you have them labeled correctly. Print quality images are 300 dpi (dots per inch), which means that they have enough resolution to provide high quality reproduction when printed in a book.
